Reyes welcomed attendees and proudly shared that the Philippines is considered one of the most gender-equal nations globally, ranking 16th in the 2023 Global Gender Gap Index, three steps higher from the previous year. The Philippines is also currently ranked 2nd in Asia and continues to aggressively promote gender equality through various government programs such as this celebration.
CDA also updated the Filipino community of the Embassy’s drive to switch to renewable energy with its recent installation of solar power system in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s advocacy for renewable energy sources.
GAD Focal Point Officer Eleanor Limochin delivered a presentation on Gender Fair Communication highlighting sexism in language and steps to change the way to communicate in order to promote equality and avoid discrimination. Alternate GAD Focal Point Officer Girlie Corpin then engaged the attendees in an activity on Gender stereotypes and how to respond to them.
The National Women’s Month is celebrated annually in the month of March pursuant to 1988 Proclamation Numbers 224 and 227, and Republic Act 6949 s. 19990. This
year’s celebration aims to capitalize on the 2023-2028 recurring theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society,” with the subtheme “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas; Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, patutunayan!” which is grounded on the objective of transforming culture toward a more equal and inclusive future. -
