DAMASCUS PE held a salu-salo with the Filipino community in Damascus to celebrate  the Filipino Food Month 2023 with the theme “Pagkaing Sariling Atin, Mahalin at  Pagyamanin,” on 30 April 2023 at the Filipino Workers’ Resource Center.

A variety of Filipino dishes were showcased during the activity particularly adobong  manok, pansit, lumpiang shanghai, lumpiang gulay, bicol express, pakbet, monggo,  papaitan, beef caldereta, and tortang talong. Leche flan, empanada, bicho-bicho, ginataang bilo-bilo and custard cake were also served for appetizer/dessert and sago’t  gulaman for drinks. The Embassy also complemented the salu-salo with unlimited rice that delighted the attendees.

Officer-in-Charge Mr. Edgar Matibag welcomed the attendees and noted that one of  the aims of Filipino Food Month is to preserve and promote the vast culinary recipes  and traditions of the country and acknowledged the role of the members of local  communities who contribute to the Philippines’ culinary industry and national food  security.

Then, FilCom members provided a brief description of each of the Filipino food showcased. In a short message, Cultural Officer Ms. Girlie Corpin encouraged the  audience to take the opportunity being based in a foreign country to introduce and  promote Filipino cuisine to our foreign friends as our food is also a part of our identity.

The Embassy regularly holds activities in participation of the government’s advocacies  to engage the Filipino Community members and keep them involved in the Embassy’s  programs. -END
